The Centre for the Study of Indian Languages and Society (INLANSO) was established in 2014 in Varanasi.It is headed by Professor Dipak Malik, Director emeritus of the Gandhian Institute of Studies as well as Professor emeritus of Benaras Hindu University, Varanasi and Dr. Miriya Malik (previously Mirja Juntunen), formerly Director of the Nordic Centre in India and Assistant Professor of South Asian Studies with teaching and research appointments at the universities of Uppsala and Stockholm in Sweden and Aarhus in Denmark.
INLANSO runs language and society/culture related short and long term training programmes for students/researchers who wish to improve their oral and language proficiency and deepen their knowledge of grammar.
The language course in Hindi is run from its Programme House in Varanasi, Urdu course from Lucknow and Tamil course from Puducherry as well as Nepali language and society courses will be conducted in Kathmandu, Nepal.
INLANSO has signed MOUs with Aarhus University, Denmark, University of Oslo, Norway and Uppsala and Stockholm Universities in Sweden.The Universities of Wuerzburg and Goettingen in Germany have been sending students for short term training in language and culture/society/religion.
